One of my favorite Camden surprises over the past few years has been the food scene. As a foodie who loves holes-in-the-wall, ethic food, and a good cheesesteak, I’ve found Camden to be remarkable. I find myself doing almost all my dining on this side of the river these days, and that habit is drifting into my work, where I’ve worked with LAEDA on their Dine Around Fridays, started a Supper Club, and even sat down with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to discuss the regions food plan. Last semester, my students visited local restaurants as a way of seeing the city, supporting local businesses, and contrasting big box development with small business development. After dining, they wrote a series of Yelp reviews for class. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing one of those reviews with you. Here’s one of my favorite reviews, written by Karley H. about my favorite restaurant in the city:

Pros: Great environment, friendly and personable staff, enough food per plate to send you home nice and full, affordable cost for GREAT food!

Cons: Parking, Hours and days of operation:

Closed Monday and Tuesday…. Wednesday thru Saturday 11am – 8:30 pm; Sunday 1:30pm – 7:30pm

I Visited Corinne’s Place on Sunday March 15th, 2015 for an early dinner late lunch

My family and I visited the Camden Waterfront Aquarium for the day and left starving. Instead of venturing back home to a restaurant in our community, I brought up the idea to go to Corinne’s Place after all the great buzz I’ve hear about it.

Boy was the Buzz right!

With my family around me it felt like we were dining at Grand-mom’s house. The environment was friendly, positive, and everyone made you feel as if you were surrounded by good friends and family. ( May occasionally feel like you were famous!) Although people may see Camden restaurants as a negative place because of the city’s perception, Corinne’s was not the case.

The food exceeded my expectations. I usually am not the type of person to try a variety foods. At restaurants I am the picky eater at the table, so I was shocked to find after trying the main course of the Cajun Turkey Wings that I was more than a fan. The wings did have a little kick to them for me personally, but my Dad also seemed to REALLY enjoy them.
The Collard Greens were my favorite along with the side of baked Mac and Cheese, which was BY FAR the favorite of the table. My younger brother ( who calls himself the Mac and Cheese expert) gave the baked delight a 10 and I couldn’t agree more.
My sister and Mom both got String Beans and Potato Salad as their sides and were impressed with the fresh taste of the vegetable and flavor of the Potato Salad.

I would recommend Corinne’s Place to anyone and everyone. Corinne’s has opened my eyes to the delicious cuisine within the City of Camden. Instead of stopping at local well known hot spots in Haddonfield, drive a little farther down to get the best meal for your buck!

P.S. Don’t leave without a bite of the Corn Bread!!!!!

I imagine most of my Camden readership already know Corinne’s and have left on more than one occasion with a slice of cornbread. For those folks, here’s a deeper dive into the restaurant by local reporter Jake Blumgart

Enjoy your #FoodieFriday!

  • Hey Stephen. Thank you for all your hard work in getting the word out on Camden’s Dining Treasures.

The review you included here is a prime example of what we are trying to accomplish with the Dine Around Program here at LAEDA. It would be great to hear similar stories from your readers.

Thanks for mentioning this week’s Dine Around at CK Cafe. We’ve replaced the fixed price menu with a Special Promotion from each restaurant. CK Cafe is offering a free side dish or dessert to Dine Around Diners. See you on Friday!
