Still tired from the papal visit? Head spinning from wonky charts? Exhausted from local issues coming from local voices? That’s what #FoodieFriday is for. It’s like I always say, come for the wonkery, stay for the #FoodieFriday posts. This week, let’s highlight a cool activity happening tonight at Cooper River Distiller in downtown Camden.

I’ve had a lot of feedback about last week’s cultural appropriation post. People were challenged by it, people liked it, people hated it. And I think there’s a time to consider gentrification, cultural appropriation and other tough topics. There’s also a time to enjoy things that are popping up around Camden. So this week, I’d like to acknowledge how cool it is to see a local business (Cooper River Distiller) work with other local partners (Black Eyed Susan’s) to put together an event featuring live music.

It’s also much-needed around campus, where so many businesses are primarily targeting the working lunch population, and students and faculty rarely feel there are reasons to be around campus except for class. As someone who organizes activities for both students and faculty, I really appreciate  a small business giving people a reason to stay.

In other words, it’s been a rainy Friday and work is piling up. But I’m definitely stopping by the distillery (a cool space if you haven’t been, and dog friendly!) to relax and enjoy.
