Update: Here’s the actual show. I’ll try to do a roundup of the show and the fact-checking on Twitter tomorrow:

Radio Times on WHYY is running an hour long show today (July 16th) from 11am-12pm on the “State of Public Schools in Camden.” It’s part of a media blitz that the School District is doing as they try to ramp up applications and publicity for the new slate of schools coming to the city.

Here’s the recent video by NJTV interviewing Camden School Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard:

One of the most disturbing little pieces of misinformation in this video is the impression given by the superintendent that opposition is coming only from special interest groups. It ignores the protests from parents, students and teachers here in Camden. Sadly, none of those voices will be on the show (although my colleague here at Rutgers-Camden, Nyeema Watson, will get the chance to talk about some of our Civic Engagement projects here at the university, and her experience growing up in Camden).

That is why I wanted to pass along the information to not just listen, but to call in to Radio Times. As is often the case in Camden, those with power and privilege are getting the chance to define the narrative, while local voices are ignored and misrepresented.

You can listen live at 91.1 FM on your radio sets, and at this link online.

The number to call in is: 1-888-477-9499. You can also send in questions via Twitter: @whyyradiotimes

I’ll post the full audio here as soon as it is up on the WHYY website. I hope to hear your voices on it!
