My sister passed this along to me, and I’m passing it right along to you:
Why I’m calling on all university faculty to refuse to write letters of recommendation to TFA
Excerpt:
The simple fact is, students who apply to TFA are not trained to be teachers. So, in a very simple sense, by refusing to write TFA letters of recommendation we’re merely telling our students that we can’t recommend them for a job for which they are not at all qualified.
Read the whole thing, and take a peak at the comments too. It’s a powder keg, and deeply challenging to a new professor. It reminds me of one of my favorite Mama Jennifer quotes. I asked her what she thought about TFA. She said, “You mean Teachers From Across the way?”
